History
Mike
Bredesen founded Flat Island Marine as Flat Island Fins in 1987
to produce custom, high performance fins for windsurfer boards
in Hawaii. (Flat
Island is a small island in Kailua Bay off the coast of Oahu.) Mike
moved back home to Florida in 1987 and located the business
in Gulf Breeze. He added centerboards, daggerboards, and
rudders to the product line and
began working
on boats, too. The boat business expanded steadily until
it became the focus of the business. In 1990 the operation
was renamed Flat Island Marine and moved
across the bay to Pace Boulevard in Pensacola. Flat Island
Marine has been at its current location in Bahia Mar Marina since
1999.
